Spring is in the air

I love Spring Training. The smell of freshly cut grass. The warm sun after another cold, gray winter. The beginning of an eight-month voyage with hopes of a World Series title. The stories of Roger Clemens’s butt abscesses.

I watched every minute of the congressional hearing yesterday from thefoulline.com headquarters and came up with a few opinions. First of all, Clemens is a liar. I’m not sure that there will ever be enough evidence to convict him for taking performance-enhancing drugs, but I have little doubt that he took them. I’m not going to get into the “he said, he said” stuff, but let’s take a look at a few highlights and observations.

  • Clemens’s legacy is obviously more important to him than his family. He tried to get his wife to take the fall for him. Be a real man and stand up for yourself.
  • Congressman Elijah Cummings (D – MD) is my new favorite politician. During the hearings, Cummings owned Clemens. This guy was relentless on him. Unfortunately, with only ten minutes assigned to each congressman, Cummings ran out of time before he could get Clemens’s head to explode. I swear Clemens was three minutes away from pulling a Colonel Jessup and shouting, “You’re goddamn right I ordered the Code Red!” Fortunately for Clemens, the Congressman ran out of time, but it was close.
  • Roger Clemens is definitely on Barry Bonds*’s Christmas card list. Clemens is now the MLB poster boy for steroids. This is exactly what Bonds* needed to take the heat off.

Clemens is a lying, cheating scumbag. He may never be prosecuted, and we may never hear the truth from him, but his legacy will be tainted forever. There are no winners here.

Baseball is the greatest sport in the world. Kids playing Little League baseball need to learn from these players’ indiscretions and do their best to emulate the ballplayers that play the game the right way. Unfortunately, an All-Star team could be fielded with the names of players that have put their personal goals and egos ahead of the game. Guys like Bonds, Rose, Sosa, Giambi and now Clemens have done their best to disgrace the game. Society has already given these guys too much attention. It’s time to put these players on the back burner where they belong, and focus on all the great things the game of baseball has to offer.

Where was our boy Stephen Lynch (d-MA) to tear Clemens apart? Hes a Brockton guy and didnt come through for the Red Sox Nation.

And where was Aronburg (r-FL) to take down another celebrity. We pay him to take down Ms. Cleo but he cant step up and take out the Rocket? Damn…

Wilbon refered to the Vegas odds on favorites today on PTI. Red Sox are the Odds-On favorites followed close by their National League counterparts of 86 years or so, The Tragic Chicago Billy Goats, I mean Cubs.

Clemens doesnt have to tell the truth. They cant prove either of them are lying, thus this goes on for ever, or until the Rocket admits he needed some extra Fuel.

    Hey Matt,
I don’t know how the Sox are going to do this year. I still think they have some holes in their lineup. I’m going to be writing about this in the next day or two, but I was hoping..and am still hoping that they makes some sort of deal to bolster their suddenly average rotation.

Ok, SO I like fantasy baseball and the people I played with last year are being a bunch of jackasses about playing this year. Theyre mad that I made the W.S. only to pull a Rockies outing and get swept. Who is up for a foulline.com Fantasy Baseball League on cbs.sportsline.com? I mean I know that everyone here would be interested and knows the game. Let me know and Ill set something up with a free private league for foulliners.

  6. Dave Says:

I’m in…I’ll even post the weekly standings on the site. This is a great idea. Thanks Matt

Ok foulline fanatics… heres the Details for thefoulline.com Fantasy Baseball League

http://www.cbs.sportsline.com, log on and create a profile for fantasy sports if you do not already have one. click on fantasy on the top bar where all the sports are listed. Under Free Fantasy Baseball, join in and name a team. Once that is done you are brought to a search page for leagues to join. click on Private Leagues. another search bar will come up and type in, “thefoulline.com Fantasy Baseball League” it will pop up and ask you for a password. the password is “redsoxnationsouth” all lowercase letters. The draft time I set for March 27th at 7:00 pm. I figured it was about a month or so to scout over Spring Training and see who is worthy of making the team, regarding injuries and what not. Stinks to do a draft early and have 3-4 key guys go down for the first 2 months. i.e. Rocco Baldelli. Any questions email me at mmmclaug@eagle.fgcu.edu, and hopefully we will have a great season.

  8. Matt McLaughlin Says:

btw its a weekly head to head league where you set the lineup and play another team based on points and you get the win or loss for the week. the top 2 from each division will make the playoffs and a 4 teams to 2 system is done for a winner.

  10. Dave Says:

This fantasy league could be pretty interesting if we can get C-mac,#33 and the Canadian Pirate/Yankee fan involved too. The more the merrier.

Of course, I hope Dylan picks his baseball team the same way he picks his stripmall mexican restaraunts. I know we are still a ways off from the first annual thefoulline.com fantasy draft, but maybe we can change the date, Dylan and myself are both working at the fire dept. that day. Matt, since you are the defacto league commish…is this o.k? Thanks for setting this up!

  11. Matt McLaughlin Says:

Im not sure guys, I realized that its a thursday and that I usually work until 7 myself. Ill look into it but Im not guarenteeing anything, I think thats one of those things that are set. Ill Email the Commish of CBS Sports and see what we can do. Let me know which day works better, Monday-Friday, Ill also shoot for a 8:30 start over the 7:00 start. Not promising anything but Ill try.

  12. Dave Says:

The 26th or 28th will work. We are at the Fire Dept. for 24 hours, so there is a chance that we will be running calls and miss the draft. Anything you can do is appreciated. Also, I couldn’t log into the league. The password wasn’t working.. please let me know. Thanks

  13. Matt McLaughlin Says:

no spaces. redsoxnationsouth. all one word…

if it still doesnt work i may just recreate the league, in order to change the time and the day.

  14. Matt McLaughlin Says:

K, the pride of the pirates faithful in the great north is in, as long as I can take Jason Bay first overall.

  17. Dave Says:

    Canadian Pirate/Yankee fan,
I think this fantasy league is going to be professional baseball players. I’m not sure there will be any Pirates in the draft. But if there are, you should pick as many as you can.
On a serious note, I’m really glad you’re signing up. You’ve proved that you know your baseball stuff. It should make for an interesting league.
