Nothing As It Seems

After watching the Red Sox this past week, I was under the impression that their offense was still stuck in Fort Myers. The dynamic duo of Ellsbury and Pedroia have looked lousy. Big Papi is a shell of his former self and has resorted to diving head first into first base in an attempt to get on, and Manny Ramirez has more stolen bases than extra base hits. I’m tired of the 2-1, or 3-0 games. I want the Sox offense to look more like a beer league softball team.

I can understand the Red Sox struggling against Roy Halladay or James Shields, these guys are good pitchers. What bothers me is when Boston’s potent offense is held in check by the likes of Edwin Jackson and Jon Garland.

But all my worrying was for naught. After doing a little research I found that Boston’s offense is right where it should be. Check out these numbers:

Batting Average: 1st in AL
Hits: 1st in AL
Runs: Tied for 2nd
RBIs: Tied for 2nd

The Red Sox also have Man-Ram leading the league in batting average and slugging % and in 2nd in homeruns and hits.

If Boston can only stay healthy for the rest of the year, they have the potential to put up some great numbers.

Thefoulline.com quick hits:

  • After the latest Roger Clemens scandal, it may be time for him to pick up Mike Tyson and O.J. Simpson and move to Siberia. America is officially sick of your crap. I can’t see how this guy could sink any lower.
  • Thefoulline.com staff would like to wish Alex Rodriguex and Jorge Posada a speedy recovery from their recent ailments. Fourth place in the division just isn’t the same without them.
  • Surprising no one, J.D. Drew is sitting out after nicking himself shaving. Or something.
  • Boston faces Blue Jays pitcher Dustin McGowan tonight. McGowan has pitched really well against Boston in the past and has the best sideburns in the league.
  • Dustin Pedroia’s diving stop in the 9th inning of last night’s game reminded me of when he saved Clay Buchholz’s no-hitter last year. D-Ped does not get the recognition he deserves for his defense. He’ll make the All-Star team this year.
  • Has anyone else noticed that Jonathan Papelbon always gives a fist-bump to a Boston police officer when he enters the game? Anyhow, check out this article. It’s pretty cool.

Watch out for Mr Kazmir returning at Fenway Sunday.

Kazmir is 1-1 at Fenway, with a 1.42 ERA, 24 Strikeouts over 3 game/19 Innings Pitched, and only allowing a .221 batting average. The numbers dont show how lights out this guy is in Fenway.

“Kazmir has a 2.66 ERA against the Red Sox in 101 1/3 career innings pitched.”

Based on the fact that he has a 2.66 over all and a 1.42 at Fenway, hes clearly not as good at the Trop. Career, 6 games against Boston, 49 K’s. Thats 8.1 a game. 8.1!!! Id take that from anyone.

Matt “The Fort Myers Miracle are in First Place with a 15-11 record, Simply because the Sox dont have a team in the league.” McLaughlin

I have a sinking feeling in my gut that I should have held on to Kazmir instead of dealing him to the Sarasota RedRays. He is another one of those Red Sox killers that always pitches well against the best. Since he clearly stinks at the Trop, maybe he should start pitching his home games at Fenway.
Let me propose this question: Which of the Sox youngsters (Pedroia, Clay, Ellsbury etc.) would you trade for Kazmir?

I went crosseyed a few times trying to read these comments. I’d trade, well, No one. Pedroia is the only one at the level of Kazmir, and I wouldn’t trade Dped for anyone. My two cents

What is it with people over the age of 45 with constantly typing in Caps Lock? I just dont get it, its like they just cant see the screen well enough to realize that THEY LOOK LIKE THEYRE IN 3RD GRADE COLORING A PICTURE AND SIGNING THEIR NAME ON THE BACK, WHILE FISTING THE CRAYON AS OPPOSED TO ACTUALLY WRITING. I will say this, I thought that english diction was begining to decline in school systems across the country from a status or level of high expectancy. I guess I was wrong, we never had high standards for language arts in the first place, thus made appearent by the Senior GM’s of our league. Type in Word, Spell Check if you have to, then Cut and Paste it in. These are not new functions, they have been there since Office 95.

btw, Dylan 24 hours left. Its the ninth inning. Comeback or Flop, the choice is yours.
