Fighting Temptations

Baseball fights are stupid. It’s essentially a pig pile of grown men. No one ever lands a clean punch, and all it does is increase the hostility between the two teams. Players’ egos are getting out of control.

With that being said, 3rd base coach DeMarlo Hale body slamming James Shields was awesome.

Thefoulline.com Quick Hits:

  • I would trade Coco Crisp for James Shields/Jonny Gomes any day of the week.
  • The Red Sox are a close-knit team, but you have to figure if anyone is going to fight in the Sox dugout, it’s going to be Kevin Youkilis and Manny Ramirez. Youk is an intense, hardworking, blue-collar player. Manny is a naturally talented, lazy idiot. I’d be surprised if this was the first fight between the two.
  • With Manny’s contract up at the end of this season, I think Boston should make a serious run at Colorado Rockies Matt Holliday. He’s younger than Manny, would have a comparable salary, can play left field, and would absolutely destroy Fenway Park.
  • Please, please, please…. let’s hope Jacoby Ellsbury didn’t break his wrist in last night’s game. If he did, the Sox are in big trouble. Ellsbury has been doing a great job as Boston’s table-setter.
  • After last night’s basebrawl game, the Rays are now neck-and-neck with the Yankees as public enemy number one at thefoulline.com
  • Jonny Gomes, Carl Crawford, and Akinori Iwamura are a bunch of punks. These three are the biggest cheap-shot artists I have ever seen. Punching Coco when he was being he held down by Dioner Navarro was cowardly. These three should receive longer suspensions than both Coco and Shields.
  • I have to mention Joba Chamberlain’s performance the other night at Yankee stadium: 2.1 innings, 148 pitches, 4 walks, 55,000 dejected fans, one foolish looking owner. Question: If a guy is playing great in the set-up role, why mess with that? Answer: Hank Steinbrenner is a friggin moron.
  • I hope the Rays enjoyed their 22 days in first place of the American League East. It will be the last time they sniff first for the rest of the year.

dismissing the rays a bit early are we? already forgotten that we swept u at the trop? good teams defend homefield, the sox do it with a 23-5 clip or whatever, and the rays do it with a 24-9 clip or whatever, when u come to the trop expect to get swept right outta town again, awful cocky for a team only 1 and a half up without its number 3 hitter, rays vs red sox see u in the ALCS

  3. Dave Says:

Yes I am dismissing the Rays. I thought this team had a little character. But after last night, they are just another team that has been overhyped by ESPN because they had a winning record in May for the first time in their history. These guys break at the first hint of adversity. Great teams can overcome these things.
The only was the Rays are going to see the playoffs, is if they buy a ticket to Fenway.
    Their little run is over.

side note: Thanks again for commenting.

  4. Dan Says:

crisp started that fued for sliding into aki on wednesday night, this will bring the rays together, how can u look at the stats and dissmiss this team? everyone at ESPN agrees this team is here to stay and they know alot more about baseball than u do. this run will go on until september, what will it take to earn respect from the rest of the league? so ur saying when rays sweep sox its a fluke, but when sox sweep rays its dominince? ok will see, im going to comment on the first of the month every month until october and i cant wait to see ur reaction

  5. spanky the yankee Says:

HEY THIS GUY DAN FROM TAMPA ..MUST HANG OUT A LEGENDS FIELD ?! DAN YOU LIKE THE YANKEES HUH???
NO SOXES NO RAYS IN SEPT IT BE THE YANKEES….THE SPANK MASTER

  6. Dave Says:

Let me reset the facts for you Dan, since you’ve chosen to be pretty selective with your memory. This season’s bad blood began when Jason Bartlett ( he’s the Ray’s Shortstop)kneeled in front of second base on Coco Crisp’s steal attempt. Being the knowledgeable baseball that you are, I’m sure that you know this is a shady move. Bartlett admitted this.
The “lifelong” Rays fan comment always cracks me up, you are a bandwagon jumper just like the rest of the fair-weathered Tampa fans. Teams don’t deserve respect after a above average 60 games. Let’s see how this dream team does when they hit 100 games.
But what do I know, I don’t even work for ESPN

  7. Dan Says:

u can say anything u want about me but dont ever call me a bandwagon jumper again, i am 18 years old and i have watched this team since i was 8, from 1998 until 2002 i had season tickets with my parents so dont ever call me that again please. and ill bet this site didnt exsist before 2004, and u also talked about responding to adversity is what great teams do right? well boston getting blanked by the worst record mariners is a good example of how great the sox are. and btw everybody knows that u dont slide into second head first, if he goes in feet first like hes supposed to this brawl never happens.

  8. Dave Says:

Listen here Bandwagon…if the Rays were such a great team they wouldn’t have the lowest attendance in the American League. As for the Sox losing tonight, I hope you’re not dumb enough to think that a team is going to go 162-0.
If Coco slides feet first into second he would have spiked the hell out Jason Bartlett. You don’t think Joe Maddon and his team of over-reactors wouldn’t have had a problem with that.

If you’re going to comment on this site, please type real words. You’re not sending a text to one of your pals.

  9. Dan Says:

Bartletts knee was there on accident if it was spiked because of a feet first slide it would have been let go. bartlett said himself that it was a mistake. no team goes 162-0 everybody knows that. if you dont want me to comment anymore just say so and i wont but i”ve never called anybody names so thats uncalled for I’m not sure why we cant have a muture baseball debate without a crisp vs sheilds type thing. I dont comment with the intention of dissing the sox, only defending the rays.

  10. Dave Says:

    Listen Dan,
You hate the Sox, I hate the Ray’s. This fact is not going to change. Joe Maddon could cure Cancer tonight and I would still think he was an idiot.
I don’t take anyone’s comments personal. I enjoy the running dialog..
As the great Coco Crisp said ” It’s just tick for tack”

  11. Dan Says:

Well if thats the case then you challenged me and i accept, i will be back later in the season when u think the rays will have fallen into the cellar. i will delight in showing u the standings with boston and tampa bay neck in neck in late august.

  12. Dave Says:

I look forward to being at the next Rays/Sox game at the Trop. Hopefully I won’t be the only one there.

  13. Dan Says:

You wont be, during the last two games of the home stand the sold out and almost sold out. Baseball fever has finally caught on, and when they get back from this long road trip it will be full now that schools out. I understand your villifying of the fans but u must understand, this is all new for us. we have never had a winning baseball team before and just like the rays were learning how to win. I dont mind the rays wont win the world series talk, its the rays will fall apart and drop to last place talk. June 30 is the next Rays Vs Sox game, i already have tickets for the July 1st game. For the first time we will outnumber you.

    Dan,

My buddy Ryan is a huge Rays fan, so I’m glad to have finnaly met the other fan by meeting you. How is it being a die hard Rays fan? depressing I’m sure……Any time a runner is stealing a base, get out of the way. Bartlett messed up by getting in the way of Crisp, yada yada yada, The Sox are fighting some exhibition team from the bay area. I’ve tried a few times to sort of like the Rays, and it’s just not there, right when I think they can’t get any dumber, they shock me again. Last night, they blew my mind by fighting with a bunch of cheap shots, absolutely horrible. So, my note to Ray’s nation, or Ray’s area, or maybe just Ryan and Dan. Keep fighting the good fight, every team and fans start somewhere, and I’m sure some day, Baltimore we be really bad and you won’t finish in last place. But, until that day, realize that you play in the best division in baseball, and some of the AAA farm clubs in the AL East could take down a bunch of the Ray’s teams of past and present. So, shut your mouths, and wait your turn in the grand scheme of the baseball world.

Dylan ” Can anyone clue me in on the REAL status of Paul Pierce’s knee?” Hamilton

  15. Dan Says:

Alright im going to ignore that last comment, your right we dont have much to brag about, and all I can do is wait for more games to be played and hope we keep winning, you will respect us eventually.

  16. Dave Says:

Dylan you nailed this one. Nice work.
As for Pierce, he could have both legs amputated and still put down a triple double against the Lakers. There is no way he misses a minute of the finals.

Its like you read my thoughts! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the e-book in it or something. I believe that you can do with some % to force the message home a bit, but instead of that, that is magnificent blog. A great read. I’ll definitely be back.
