Talk Shows on Mute

Thefoulline.com would like to congratulate the Tampa Bay Rays on winning the 2008 World Series. Tampa has shown that with hard work and determination, anything is possible. Kudos to the Rays and their fan.

What’s that, there are still 80 games left to be played?? Are you sure? I was listening to Sports Radio 620 WDAE this morning and according to them, this season is over.

On Tampa’s Ron and Ian show this morning these guys could not say enough about how the Rays are going to kill the Sox this week, and how Boston is a bunch of chumps. These are the same guys that predicted during the pre-season that the Rays would finish below .500. What I don’t understand is how the Rays will win the World Series and still finish with a losing record.

Could this be yet another Florida newspaper/talk show/news reporter jumping on the Rays bandwagon? This is nothing new for this area. After all, the same thing already happened when the Bucs and Lightning were suddenly contenders, so why not jump on the Rays’ wagon? What I find really funny is last year the Tampa Tribune and St. Pete Times had absolutely zero Rays coverage. It was difficult to even find the box score. Now these sports sections are all Rays, all the time.

I wonder what they are going to replace this section with when September rolls around. Oh, I know, the Buccaneers will be getting ready to start their season. Crisis averted.

Everyone loves a winner. This is evident by every Tom, Dick and Harry that is suddenly a “lifelong” Rays fan. Some of these fans can even tell you the names of a a few of the Devil Rays that were on the team last year.

But a true fan follows their team and voices their support regardless of their record.

I look forward to seeing and hearing how this all plays out in the Tampa media when Thursday rolls around, and once again the Rays are looking up at the Red Sox.

Quick note. I had a 23 game package with the Rays since day one..We had seats on the right field line.
the only time the dome was sold out was when Boston or a New York team played .. the other fans could name thier intire team. We had a quizzz for the Rays fans around us .. name you starting catcher..9 out of ten did not have a clue.. The St. Pete times had some good stuff on game day thats it.. the Tampa Tribue SUCKS.. zero..the best info came from USA today… the Tampa area will always be a football town .. to bad huh???You can not play real baseball in a warehouse with A/C.. You need real grass ,sun, wind ,rain ,heat … ya that the great out doors ,thats basa ball YAALLLL… gatta love BOSTON :} bring your broom. SWEEEEEEEP!

Tampa vs Boston. Round 3 starts tonight.

There is a reason why the St Pete Times Forum is in Tampa. Because the Tribune is the inferior paper in their own territory to the SPT. Its obvious which one the residents read.

Heres looking forward to the new Tampa Bay park on the St Pete waterfront.

I think it is funny that Jeremy Schapp refers to the Rays as the only team in MLB named after a body of water and not a city or state. I think Tampa Bay is more of a Tri-City region than just the water. Clearwater, Tampa and St Pete are very close politically and is a growing and thriving region of this state. Heres to Tampa Bay, the region, and not just a body of water.
And Jeremy Schapp hitting puberty in the next decade. Fink.

Good game tonight at the Trop. I was impressed with the Rays, and their fans. The next two are going to be exciting.

So… That’s what crow tastes like? I hope that this will be my only helping.

  4. Boston Braves Says:

I was very impressed with Matts prediction at the begining of the year going out on the line saying that the Rays would finish 500 or better for the first time in their history. The Rays have the formula to be very successful they have put together great starting pitching a closer and most of all a defense that can support that staff. They have sured up the middle of their defense with a catcher of the future a future All Star center fielder and a short stop that can make the plays unlike what we have in Boston. Oh thats right Tampa got rid of him. Well Im impressed with the talent that the Rays have put between the lines. I would like to say quickly Boston should learn something thing from them like keep your mouths shut MANNY PAP and several others play the game for the Fun like the Rays have been doing. Boston will always be my #1 team but these Rays are fun to watch and route for. Boston get your act together or you will not only find yourself behind the Rays but the Stinkys are creaping up.

O.K. now that I’ve recovered from last nights game, I have a few quick points to bring up.
First of all, it felt like a playoff game last night. Every pitch had the potential to be a game changer. Even in defeat, it was fun to watch.
Secondly, James Shields is a really good pitcher, but the Sox helped him out quite a bit their first time through the lineup. The Sox were swinging at way too many first pitches. Shield like most pitchers, pitchers worse with a higher pitch count. If you keep his pitches to a minimum, he’ll kill you.
Thirdly, the Rays fans in attendance were pretty passionate last night. My only complaint with them, is that they seemed to try too hard to be obnoxious. I know that being a Sox fan I have not room to talk, but the Rays fans were trying too hard be like Sox/Yankees fans. They have a good product on the field, they just need a little time to establish their own identity as fans.
Fourth, Boston kept Chris Smith in for one batter too many, and should have pinch hit for Julio Lugo. Those two things could have changed the game.
Fifth, If the Sox can even it up tonight. Wednesday on ESPN is going to be a friggin madhouse. I’ll be there with Mrs.Foulline, first row, thirdbase side. I plan on taking some pics and putting them on the site.
    Sixth, The Boston Braves suck

THE RAYS ARE A SERIOUS CONTENDER . NOW EVERY ONE WANTS A PIECE OF THIER ASS…LETS NOT EAT CROW TILL THE END OF THE SEASON … THIS SERIES MAKES BASEBALL FUN ./… GO BOSTON

  7. Dave Says:

Where are all the Rays fans? Their team has just taken two games from the World Champs. I was expecting some bragging/ trash talking.

  8. Dan Says:

Theres no need, you saw what happend, and if i start bragging now, it makes me look stupid next time we play if the sox win. Besides, theres still another game to play, im goin tonight and two of three isnt enough!

will the visiting team ever win a game in this series??

  9. Dave Says:

This has been a really good series, that has lived up to the hype. I don’t like to ever admit when Im wrong, but these Rays may be for real. I still think that Boston is built for the long haul, and the next 70+ games are going to feel like October baseball. Its funny that the Yankees are now an afterthought.

I’ll be there tonight. Go Sox!

Let’s play the next series on neutral ground.

  10. Dan Says:

This may or may not suprise you, but the rays have not won a series in fenway since 1999, until that trend changes, the sox are the favorites in this division.

  11. Dave Says:

I honestly didn’t know that. I knew that the D’Rays always played them tough up there. I’ll be interested to see how both of these teams improve themselves at the Trade deadline. They both have the chips to land some quality players.

  12. Dan Says:

I sure hope the sleeper rumors are true and the rays make a play at CC Sabathia

  13. Matt McLaughlin Says:

Not with Price in AA. If hes as good as they say, then they wont need to.

Matt “I dont care that they are the TAMPA Yankees, I still love to watch the Miracle or anyone beat their asses.” McLaughlin

  14. Dan Says:

As dominate as David Price is, him, as well as kazmir, shields, and garza have no playoff expereince, they need a good starter with playoff experince like cc sabathia or freddy garcia.

  15. Dave Says:

Commenting live from the Trop….Sox look focused tonight. Let’s hope Kaz gets rocked!!
