The Safety Dance
I was playing some disc golf with my buddy Kyle the other day, and we stumbled upon a collegiate baseball tournament that was being played on the adjacent fields. I came to find out that there are 25 baseball teams playing in a month-long tournament in Port Charlotte (Snowbird Baseball Classic on Florida’s Suncoast). After dominating Kyle in golf, we caught a few innings of Montclair State University vs. Carthage College. If you put a gun to my head I couldn’t tell you where these school are located, but I can tell you it was really enjoyable to watch. This just further proves what I always say… Any baseball is good baseball.
Enjoy thefoulline.com’s Quick Hits:
- Manny Ramirez has 3 sons, all named Manny.
- How is it possible that the frickin’ New Kids on the Block and the Backstreet Boys conglomeration of suckiness is having a concert at Fenway Park this summer and Pearl Jam is not?
- If I had the chance to spend a day talking baseball with any two people in the world, Don Zimmerman and Yogi Berra would definitely top the list.
- If I had the chance to spend a day talking fantasy baseball with any two people in the world, Ginger and the Bostonbadboy would definitely top the list.
- Big, bad, burly Dan Johnson’s walk up music is Men Without Hats, “The Safety Dance.” Odd choice.
- I’m really looking forward to a season of ESPN baseball broadcasts without Jon Miller and Joe Morgan. Joe Morgan is a pompous ass.
- I just read that Chipper Jones is having a great spring and is swinging the bat better than he did in 2008. I expect to be reading in two weeks that Chipper Jones is on the DL with a hang nail.
- I think the Baltimore Orioles have a chance to go 81-81. Their pitching isn’t quite there, but the lineup with Vlad, Markakis, Mark Reynolds, Luke Scott, Brian Roberts, and Matt Wieters should be fun to watch.
- Quick! Not counting Fausto Carmona, Grady Sizemore, and Carlos Santana, name three players on the Cleveland Indians. (Shin-Soo Choo and Travis Hafner were all I could come up with.) I think the Royals may have some competition for worst team in baseball.
- I’m not sold that Josh Beckett is going to have the great resurgence that a lot of fantasy experts are projecting.
- I’m predicting that Jonathan Papelbon will be the Baltimore Orioles closer in 2011.
- Dear Seattle Mariner ownership: Please do not trade King Felix to the Yankees regardless of who they offer you. He’s your franchise guy. Build around him!
- Has anyone seen Unsportsman Mike? I don’t want to hear any more lame excuses about an auto-drafted team this year. He had a three-week notice.
- I’m hoping for the 4th-6th pick in this years draft. Not a fan of the bookend position.
12 days.

But unfortunately for the AL Central, The Royals have built the strongest farm system baseball has seen in 30 years.

March 19th, 2011 at 9:00 pm
I am here guys don’t worry! I didn’t know I was missed this much:) but look guys. I am going to make my own team this year. I just don’t know why your worrying about me…. Ginger should be the one to be thinking about. She can’t have a 3-peat
March 19th, 2011 at 9:02 pm

March 19th, 2011 at 9:03 pm

March 19th, 2011 at 9:05 pm
hey dave maybe ur wife should test her true skill and autodraft a team and see if she can keep the streak alive lol
March 19th, 2011 at 9:08 pm
Dont tempt her Allan… She hates the draft. I on the other hand, love the draft but end up trading my team away and losing in the playoffs.
Glad youre back Mike- no autodraft excuses this year!
March 19th, 2011 at 9:19 pm
I end up with injuries and collaspes right when a win can get me into the playoffs
March 20th, 2011 at 7:40 am
1 week until the draft…..
March 20th, 2011 at 2:41 pm
This has been without a doubt the longest and most painful wait in the history of the world. Next year we have to have an earlier draft.
March 21st, 2011 at 4:08 pm
thats y I had t join another league because I was stating to die lol. I need to draft already!!! lol
March 21st, 2011 at 5:31 pm
I agree about Baltimore. I think a change in power in the AL is coming soon. The Orioles and Royals are building excellent farm systems, and it could lead to both those teams becoming a power in the American League.
March 21st, 2011 at 6:05 pm
Thanks for commenting Eric. I really like Baltimores lineup. Unfortunately, they are in the toughest division in baseball. If they go .500, that’s a very successful year for the Orioles.
March 23rd, 2011 at 3:47 pm
yea I gotta agree with dave on that.
March 23rd, 2011 at 4:18 pm
Well honestly you neva know right? Im an orioles fan myself. im hoping for good things with Buck Showalter at the helm. We turned it around last year pretty good. This is a cool website
March 23rd, 2011 at 6:31 pm
Anything is possible. Just ask the 2008 Rays. Stay loyal Eric, good times are coming. I know better than anyone.
March 24th, 2011 at 3:25 pm
I dont understand whats going on this offseason. The Tampa Bay Rays are the defending AL East champions. Theres nothing that can change that. First you have Chocalate Cake Sabathia mentioning every team in the division except Tampa Bay in an interview talking about the AL East. Next you have Buck Showalter mentioning New York and Boston in his interview about the AL East, Talking about the “Yankees and Red Sox setting a level of dominance in the AL East that we wish to strive for”. Really Buck? Your Orioles strive for 2nd and 3rd place? Interesting. No matter what you think about the Rays this year, you have to take the division title from them. If you think were toast, your in for a rude wake up call. Looks like we have to earn our respect all over again eh?
March 24th, 2011 at 4:09 pm
did u guys hear about buck schowalter bashing jeter and the red sox?
March 24th, 2011 at 4:21 pm
That’s the interview I was talking about. Did you read the whole thing? I dont understand why the AL East Champions dont exsist all of a sudden.
March 25th, 2011 at 3:52 pm
yea I read that. he’s just sticking up for the little guys thats all. what I mean by little guys is (small payroll teams)
March 25th, 2011 at 4:26 pm
The Rays are a little guy!
March 25th, 2011 at 6:55 pm
nice piece yankeemee boy ..BUT I think the ORIOLES are going to surprise a lot of teams . the end of 2010 they where clicking . the boston badboy says look for the birds to be in the top three.. who wants to bet..?? LET ME KNOW I NEED THE $$$$$$.. one thing about florida there is all ways BASEBALL GAME some where .. SUNDAY I CAN HARDLY WAIT TO PICK EM… WHO WANTS TO BET DAVE makes at least 5 trades before the season starts…8-1 MIKE IS A NO SHOW SUNDAY AUTO TIME MIKE…… AN GINGER is a Witch she uses a wegee board to pick…..see you all except mike SUNDAY :} THE BADBOYS PS PAPELBONER WILL BE A dodger by june….out of the american league
March 25th, 2011 at 7:24 pm
well dan I didnt want to insult u by saying ur team was the little guys lol next time I wont be so nice
March 25th, 2011 at 7:34 pm
Well if small market teams are little guys than the Rays are Dustin Pedrioa lol
March 25th, 2011 at 7:41 pm
We should know our draft positions tomorrow morning. That’s always fun.
March 25th, 2011 at 8:22 pm
Can we draft tommorrow morning??
March 25th, 2011 at 8:37 pm
Nope!
March 25th, 2011 at 8:38 pm
But I wanna draft NOW!!!!
March 26th, 2011 at 3:42 am
Draft order is up.
Rays those cowbells gets the first pick… You are on the clock!
March 26th, 2011 at 5:10 am
Pick 1 huh? That’s a first for me. Not ideal but its better than 3 or 4. At least I get the best player in baseball. Unless he gets hit by a car before sunday night, im taking Pujols. No drama no secrets. The divisions look pretty balanced. Past years it could sometimes get stacked to one division. Game on!!
March 26th, 2011 at 6:57 am
I would have been happy with #1… #6 is kind of lousy. It’s gonna be interesting.
March 26th, 2011 at 4:04 pm
I thought you wanted pick 6?
March 26th, 2011 at 4:18 pm
I changed my mInd. #6 is without a doubt the worst pick in the draft!
March 26th, 2011 at 4:24 pm
Well what pick did you want?? If this was like burger king, and you could have it your way, what is the greatest pick for team Yankeehaters??
March 26th, 2011 at 4:45 pm
I’ll make it work at the 6 spot. I’ll just have to use my draft magic to assemble my team of awesomeness. Anyhow, ginger and I are at the Sox/ Twins doing some last minute fantasy scouting. Although it would be nice to know that the best player on the planet was going to be on my team. I may lose sleep on who I’m taking in the first round.
March 26th, 2011 at 4:52 pm
Yea my draft doesnt really start until round 2. That sure is gonna be a long wait for that second pick. Allan got what he wanted. He is in the division with the LBCs. And he picks in front of her. It would appear if Allan is going to make good on his promise to take down the LBCs, he got a favorable draw. But we all know… Never, And I mean never! count out the fantasy machine that is the Love Boat Captains.
Dan “First the first time ever, the Yankeehaters and Rays Those Cowbells are in the same division. It will be groundbreaking and electrifying!” Mckewen
March 26th, 2011 at 5:02 pm
I really like the way the divisions lined up. They seem pretty even. I can’t help but think that you’ve, employed Allan to do your dirty work… To do what none of us have been able to do.. Take down the LBC’s.
As for you and me Mckewen- it’s not a rivalry when one team wins all the games!
26 1/2 hours to go…
March 26th, 2011 at 5:06 pm
Allan knows what he’s doing. He’ll need too if he hopes to have any chance against her.
Week 4 Dave. Week 4 is when it all begins again. The Yankeehaters lead to all time series 4 games to 1. I am on a mission to reverse my fortunes against you. Come week 4, you better be ready for a war.
March 26th, 2011 at 5:16 pm
Happy to hear it Dan! Let’s see what I whip together tomorrow night at the draft. I may have a few tricks up my sleeve.
I’m counting the days.
March 26th, 2011 at 5:18 pm
Here’s a very interesting twist. With the season starting on a thursday, I thought sure that week one would be a short 4 day period. But there going all the way to next sunday. So week one is 11 days long. Some pitchers will get three starts in the period, and we could have a 500 point week from a team for the first time. Very interesting changes in strategy could be taking place.
March 26th, 2011 at 5:22 pm
Swell…. I have Chefdick in week 1. He crushed me in week 1 last year.
March 26th, 2011 at 5:25 pm
Where’s Dave Mc when you need him?? Load up on the 3 start pitchers!!
