First Among Equals

Holy cow, that was a long first week of fantasy baseball! I think we can all agree that a seven-day game week is preferable to the 11-day marathon. Congrats to the teams that won. Good luck this week!

Quick Hits

  • Trades in fantasy baseball are a crazy thing. Sometimes there are obvious winners and losers. Other times times one team gets absolutely crushed. An example of this would be yours truly trading Alex Rodriguez and C.J. Wilson for Cole Hamels and Justin Upton. I drafted A-Rod in the 4th round of our draft, and I was happy with the pick. I think he’s going to have a monster season. But every time I saw him up to bat, I was wishing that he would take a fastball in his earhole. I think it’s important to have a fantasy team made up of players that are not only good but also fun to watch. I think Hamels and J. Upton  are two of those guys. A-Rod never will be.
  • The Yankeehaters were getting crushed this week. I traded A-Rod and my team’s performance turned around the next day. Karma? Perhaps. Either way — good riddance.
  • The 8th inning experiment with star closer Rafael Soriano is not going well. Some guys are just meant to pitch in the 9th inning. Oh well, it’s only $35 million.
  • B.J. Upton’s real name is Melvin.
  • There’s an appendicitis epidemic sweeping through baseball. I’m going to have mine prematurely removed so it doesn’t potentially affect my playoff run in fantasy baseball.
  • Manny Ramirez is a total scumbag. Joe Maddon and the Rays players supported him 100%. Manny repays this support by lying to them and then getting busted using steroids for the second time. Good riddance.
  • Sam Fuld makes a great defensive play every game.
  • The LBCs have been snakebit in the first week of our season. Don’t write her off quite yet. She’ll still make the playoffs.
  • Thanks Chefdick for dropping Edwin Jackson. He’s looking great so far.
  • The once-proud Cleveland Indians fan base was totally absent in the series against the Red Sox.  There was an average attendance of about 5000 fans per game. Didn’t they used to own the consecutive sellout streak?
  • Scoring the second most points in the league and losing is one of the frustrations of playing in a head-to-head league. Sorry, Chefdick.
  • Jered Weaver: 3 games, 3 wins, 9 hits allowed, 85.5 points. Wow!

The Foul Line Fantasy Baseball Power Rankings

  1. Yankeehaters: 541 points! I think that might be a world record
  2. chefdicks11: Some tough injuries down the stretch hurt. Playing the Yankeehaters hurt even more.
  3. RedRays: Put up a ton of points and crushed the two-time defending champ.
  4. bostobadboys: If Josh Beckett continues his great pitching, the BBB will be tough all year long.
  5. Rays Those Cowbells: Dan made some great trades this week. I anticipate RTC climbing up the rankings this week.
  6. Sam’s Baseball Train: Solid from top to bottom. Sam is going to win more than he loses this year.
  7. Love Boat Captains: This week was a fluke. Her team is better than their week-1 performance.
  8. WILLIS Be The Year: Pitching is pretty awful. If he addresses that, he could bounce back. He’s still 1-0.
  9. ToPpIn Da ChArTz: Losing Longoria was a big reason he lost this week. I look forward to A-Rod getting injured on your team this year.
  10. UNsportsmanMike: 295.5 points in an 11-day week? Really?

Go Sox!

Excellent post Dave. The fantasy review is one of the best things about playing in this league. Hopefully they keep coming!

    - You drafted A Rod in the 3rd round, not the 4th.

    - Im playing the RedRays this week, and that sucks. Can somebody break up Roy Halladay and King Felix?

    - Manny sucks

    - Both Allan and Ginger have dreams of winning the league this year, one of them is about to start 0-2.

    - I think Mike’s team is alot better than it was last year. RTCs blockbuster addition Carl Crawford going for 10 points really doesnt help. I think Mike takes down the Yankeehaters, who are due for a letdown after a record performance.

    - Letdown or no letdown. 541 points is sick. Nice job Dave.

    - Albert Pujols was the worst hitter in my lineup in week 1. I like my chances going forward.

    - If Nelson Cruz and Ian Kinsler can stay on the field, chefdick’s lineup is sick.

    - Dave, any chance we could get my team name spelled right in the division standings? If im Raise Those Cowbells then the gimmick is lost lol.

Dan” Fantasy baseball is awesome, hoping to start 2-0″ Mckewen

  2. Dave Says:

Sorry for the name mix up Dan, I’ll have my editor fix your name in the standings.
You may be right about Mike. His team is pretty decent that could definitely take me down this week. Although, I really like my team. Cole Hamels looked great yesterday. I was relieved.

I’m not sold on Kinsler….still. 4 hrs is nice, but he’s still only batting .235
Ginger takes down Allan this week.
Red rays and RTC’s is the game of the week. I’ll be cheering for the Redrays.
    ARod blows.

  3. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Give the editor my thanks Dave. Im glad I have your support against the RedRays. It means that world to me. Allan has been looking forward to this game for months. I would put my money on Allan this week based on sheer want too lol. But then again, its the LBCs…….

  4. Dave Says:

I think you read that wrong Dan. IM HOPING 100% THAT THE REDRAYS BEAT YOU THIS WEEK!
I hope this clears things up for you.

  5. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Oh im very well aware of what you meant Dave. Sarcasm is a wonderful thing. I will take sole possesion of first place in the west division this week! Mike will take you down, and I will prevail against the RedRays! And there is nothing you can do about it Dave. I didnt want to be the one to break that to you, but somebody had to do it.

  6. Dave Says:

This is all just a prelude until I whip your ass in week 4 Dab.
Sizemore?? Really? You’re getting desperate in your old age.

  7. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Hey week 4 cant come fast enough. I look forward to putting a massive beatdown on you. It will be glorious Dave. The matchup of the century.

And Sizemore might have something left you know? I figure picking up a talented OF on waivers is better than trading one of the best hitters in fantasy for Justin Upton.

  8. Dave Says:

It’s not the matchup of the century, when I beat you every time. You can fleece yout buddies out of all there good players and it’s still not going to help. As for Sizemore….hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha! I thought you learned your lesson, obviously not!. Justin Upton had 30 points this week and Cole Hamels had 30 points yesterday. I have no regrets at all about that trade.
Keep holding out for Alex Gordon, Pablo Sandoval and Grady Sizemore to have great years….. If you play your cards right I might let you help me pick my play off lineup. Just so you know what it’s like.

    Is it week 4 yet?

  9. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

As opposed to waiting on Justin Upton? Haha! I will personally guarantee you that Justin Upton wont even sniff 30 points this week. Sizemore is a high reward no risk player. You traded the heart of your lineup for a player with the same potential. Nice Dave, keep the championships coming! Oh that’s right… You never have won a championship have you Dave? I think were in the same boat wouldnt you say? You cant hide behind your wife forever you know. Keep holding out for that second baseman that will never come. Who the hell is Neil Walker? Please start him when we play in week 4! Burnett? LOL!

Dan and Dave having a war of words? Fantasy baseball is back at its finest! God I love this game!

  10. Dave Says:

I like it Dan! I’ve made the playoffs every year and the finals twice.
In this league that’s pretty good….

  11. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Indeed it is. But so is coming within one game of a playoff spot two years in a row. This league is hard to compete in. Im firing the whole gun this year, not just one bullet. My trades in week one are just the start. Im ready to break through this year.

  12. Dave Says:

Dice K might be the worst pitcher in baseball

  13. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Haha! The Rays finally stopped taking every pitch ever thrown to them. Swing the bat!! Run support for Hellickson, gotta love it.

  14. allan Says:

george steinbrenners saying “NOBODY SPENDS MONEY LIKE ME B**CH’S!!!!!!!” LOL

  15. pop Says:

what a week.. so maney injuries all ready ..an manny what a joke……..goodnews will be in tampa next week ////my kid got tickets to da rays ///it . willl be us an maybe 300 other people we are the one with boston caps ….go white sox//////// nice stuff DAVE

  16. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Well that’s great! Keep filling the Trop, the more the better.

When did Boston fire Terry Francona and hire a moron? This is news to me. I, Dan, have the answer to all the Red Sox problems…. LINEUP MISMANAGEMENT!! Pick a lineup and stick with it! And to make matters worse, its the wrong lineup when he picks it! This is the best possible lineup for Boston, and it would win more games.

    CF: Jacoby Ellsbury
    LF: Carl Crawford
    2B: Dustin Pedrioa
    1B: Adrian Gonzalez
    3B: Kevin Youkilis
    DH: David Ortiz
    RF: JD Drew
    C: Jarrod Saltalamacchia
    SS: Jed Lowrie

First of all bench Marco Scutaro. Lowrie is way better with the stick right now, and deserves a chance to play every day. And in the 9 spot he would start the merry go round all over again. They keep moving Crawford around, take it from someone who knows, put him in the 2 slot and keep him there. That’s when he is at his best. You have your best overall hitter in the 3 hole, and two right handers sandwhiching A Gon so its hard for managers to bring in specialist relievers. This is the winning combo for Boston. I only write this post because I am a FRUSTRATED Carl Crawford owner and really want to see him get going! Pedrioa is a great contact guy and doesnt strike out much, so Ellsbury and Crawford could run at will.

Well guys, that’s about as pro Boston a post as you will ever see me write. The Red Sox have all the tools to be a great team, but they need to be used right. Last day of the week guys, finish strong.

Dan” I have a new man crush on Starlin Castro” Mckewen

  17. allan Says:

wow whats wrong boston fans ya’ll aint gonna fill the trop up for the rays this year? y not??? is it because ya’ll spent 300 million dollars and you still cant beat the rays LMAO!!! my oh my guys these “tampa bay red sox” fans r oh so funny. I’m not talking about every fan i’m just talking about the ones who were wearing boston hats in 2004 and ringing cowbells in 2008. lol.

  18. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

Allan that sounds more like a rant I would use lol

  19. Dave Says:

I thought you were a Braves fan Allan?

  20. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

He is. He’s just being difficult lol. No fantasy review this week Dave?

  21. Dave Says:

    It’s on it’s way

  22. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

    Good man Dave.
