Der Kommissar
Ginger here.
We have the opportunity to switch from the usual free fantasy league to a CBS Commissioner League at no cost to any of you fine fantasy losers (and Dan). The main differences with the premium league are that every detail (roster requirements, point values, transaction rules…) can be customized and everyone gets free access to MLB Gameday Audio (home and away radio feeds for every regular season game). If we use the Commissioner league in future seasons (no promises), we’ll also have league history details maintained on the CBS site, which will be sad, because it won’t include my championships.
It is not our intention to change any of the scoring, roster, or transaction rules. If anyone thinks any of these details should change, let’s chat about it in the comments and see what everyone else thinks.
All this customization would allow us to add an 11th team for our pal Dave (brother of October Boys’ Dennis). Obviously, changing the league to 11 teams is no small thing, so please share your thoughts about it. We think he would be an enthusiastic and attentive team owner who would fit in well with our group. On the other hand, we discussed a 12-team league a few weeks ago, and there were concerns about spreading the talent too thin. Personally, I don’t buy this argument. Sure, you’ll have fewer studs on your team, but so will everyone else. I like the challenge of having to dig deeper to fill out your team. But if you’re scared…
I’ve set up the new league, but everyone will need to join again. If anyone has any concerns or doesn’t want to make the change, let us know. Otherwise, you’ll find the new league at thefoulline.baseball.cbssports.com. Please go sign up! Nothing will change as far as rules or league size without plenty of discussion here. For now, you’re just signing up for our usual game with the Gameday Audio perk.
If you run into any trouble signing up, send me your email address and I’ll send you an invite with the direct signup link.

Another perk.. Once everyone signs up, we can find out our draft position right away. And please consider adding Dave. He’s a great guy. He’d be a welcome addition.
March 8th, 2013 at 1:24 pm
I only have a few minor concerns.
– With 11 teams, what happens to the format? To the divisions? How can 11 teams play a weekly H2H league? Won’t one person not have an opponet each week? I guess that concern isnt so minor.
What happens to our free league, we just all leave it and it disbands?
The draft order is still random, yes?
What happens to the playoffs? The divisions? One division gets an extra team?
March 8th, 2013 at 1:26 pm
I am all for it. I am not scared about 11 or 12 teams. There are plenty of players out there to be had.
March 8th, 2013 at 1:29 pm
I am currently sitting at a spring training game with my friend Dave. I was just telling him how much being invited to play in this league meant to me. Thank you, Ginger, for championing a movement for expansion. I assure you that my brother is an astute baseball man and a great competitor. A fine addition to the league.
March 8th, 2013 at 1:39 pm
The odd number of teams is an excellent point that we didn’t consider, Dan. I feel dumb. The site lets us set it up that way, but I don’t know how it works. I’ll need to look into it, but I would guess that it will need to be 10 or 12.
Yes, we would just abandon the free league. But for now it’s still a go, just in case we don’t get full support for the new one.
The draft would still be random. Whenever we’re ready, I can go in and set the draft order by clicking a button that sets a random order. There is an option to do it manually, but we won’t use that option.
The playoffs can be the same as always, with all the default options, or we can tweak it if there is enough support for a change. I set everything up with the default options.
Personally, I don’t think we should change any of the rules or options from the standard format, except possibly the number of teams. But I don’t think we have a 12th, so that might not work anyway.
March 8th, 2013 at 1:45 pm
Im almost positive it would have to be 12. I cannot fathom any way to have a H2H weekly league with an odd number of teams.
Honestly that’s my only concern. I don’t want to be the one to tell Dave he can’t join. It would be fun to add a new passionate member to the league.
Are there any possible canidates for a 12th man?
March 8th, 2013 at 1:47 pm
The return of Dylan?
March 8th, 2013 at 1:51 pm
Maybe Buster Olney
March 8th, 2013 at 1:54 pm
I think if we increase the number of players, 12 is the right number. Maybe add 2 more playoff teams?
March 8th, 2013 at 2:03 pm
Half the teams make the playoffs? Ugh… We don’t want it to be the NBA playoffs do we?
March 8th, 2013 at 2:06 pm
11 is no good. 12 though is just fine with me. But the real question, who will be the 12th member? I’m sure all of us have someone in mind but maybe we should leave that up to the peeps at the Foulline headquarters.
March 8th, 2013 at 2:08 pm
12 isn’t an option. Not sure if 11 is either…
Whatever, the case.. Follow the link and sign up. The divisions will be randomized also.
Lets get signed up and get our draft positions!
March 8th, 2013 at 2:10 pm
If you add 2 more playoff teams, it would mean that the regular season would end a week earlier and the division winners get the 1st round bye. If that happens, the RedRays might squeak into the playoffs. Yes!
March 8th, 2013 at 2:12 pm
11 isn’t an option FOR sure… It would HAVE to be 12th. I think we should get a 12th member locked in before we start making plans to sign up.
Is there any way we could do 2 divisions of 6? Instead of 3 divisions of 4? I would love to keep the 2nd Wild Card. It adds alot of flexibility to the league. So much better then 3 division winners and 1 wild card.
March 8th, 2013 at 2:17 pm
Ginger, I need an invite.

March 8th, 2013 at 2:27 pm
I don’t have a 12th guy that I know/ trust to be committed all year long. It’s a serious commitment. We don’t want any half assed scrubs.. And buster olney said no
March 8th, 2013 at 2:30 pm
I may know a guy. He’s a rays fan. Lol
March 8th, 2013 at 2:33 pm
We’ve met out quota on Rays fans. We may be stuck at 10. It’s been working for us. If it ain’t broke…
But please follow the link and sign up!
March 8th, 2013 at 2:38 pm
I need an invite. Whiteblackman88@yahoo.com
It wouldn’t let me in.
March 8th, 2013 at 2:42 pm
We need to work hard on getting a 12th man. Your friend Dave shouldn’t be left out.
March 8th, 2013 at 2:58 pm
Allan, I’ve sent the invite.
Dan, you should still sign up. It’s set up for ten teams. The extra teams can just be added later if that’s how it ends up, but it sounds like it won’t anyway.
I can see that I can add an 11th team, but I didn’t do it. As of now, this league is exactly the same setup as the other.
March 8th, 2013 at 3:01 pm
And I think everyone is going to need an invite to get in, so I’ll need your email address. You can post it here or send it to me at editor@thefoulline.com.

March 8th, 2013 at 3:23 pm
I have a good idea for the draft order. Since everyone is coming back, the last place team from 2012 should get the #1 pick. Do the order from worst to first.
March 8th, 2013 at 3:24 pm
This would keep the league competitive.
March 8th, 2013 at 3:28 pm
Draft order MUST be random. I think thats fair for everyone
March 8th, 2013 at 3:34 pm
Draft order will be random. Don’t worry about that.
March 8th, 2013 at 3:48 pm
Dan is scared to pick last. Lol
March 8th, 2013 at 3:53 pm
I’ll be more then happy to get the super bowl champions punisment of picking last… If i get my team from last year back.
The super bowl champs pick last… But they keep Tom Brady
March 8th, 2013 at 3:54 pm
It will be random!
I don’t think we should change anything. Since we have options now, we’d thought it wouldn’t hurt to open up a discussion. But I for one think everything was good the way it was and shouldn’t change.
March 8th, 2013 at 4:00 pm
Im in
March 8th, 2013 at 4:02 pm
If memory serves, this type of league costs money… You guys arent fitting the entire bill by yourselves are you?
March 8th, 2013 at 4:07 pm
The league costs $200. But, since we purchased MLBtv at home it was no charge. This improved league will be good. We’ll be able to keep track of all the league stats. its a definite upgrade! and… everyone can Enjoy the free MLB games on the radio!
Everything is going to be randomized. The divisions, the draft order, everything.
So lets get everyone signed up. Find our draft order and start preparing for the best fantasy league around!
March 8th, 2013 at 4:10 pm
That last comment was me.. Not ginger
March 8th, 2013 at 4:13 pm
Eh you probably wish you were Ginger, then you would have a title… Zing!
But holy crap.. I’ve been doing some exploring, and this new league setup is going to be so epic… It destroys the free one.
March 8th, 2013 at 4:27 pm
Just for that, give Dan the last pick. Lol
March 8th, 2013 at 4:42 pm
Go ahead and send me the invite Ginger

March 8th, 2013 at 5:02 pm
Im in, thanks for the invite guys. This new set up looks amazing compared to the free one. Im assuming the draft will be on the 25th at 8:30 still?
March 8th, 2013 at 5:11 pm
The new setup will be great. I know change is a little scary, but everything is going to be the same if not better. The draft is the same day we’ve already planned. As soon as Chefdick and the hammer sign up we can know our draft order.
Is everyone ok with knowing our draft order now? Or do you want to wait?
March 8th, 2013 at 5:25 pm
2 weeks to prepare in mock drafts while KNOWING my spot in the draft? Yes please
March 8th, 2013 at 7:37 pm
Wow all this talk is giving me the chills. I want my draft order ASAP!
March 8th, 2013 at 7:38 pm
Then get the hammer and Chefdick to sign up!
March 8th, 2013 at 9:36 pm
I’m ready to draft. We need this draft order!
March 8th, 2013 at 10:12 pm
I think we should do the reverse NFL Draft kind of thing. Im the champ, so i’ll go ahead and pick first.
March 9th, 2013 at 6:42 am
Works for me!
March 9th, 2013 at 12:14 pm
All ten teams are in!!
August 1st, 2013 at 1:24 pm
I love it when people get together and share opinions.
Great blog, keep it up!
