Drinking And Trading, Memorial Day

Memorial Day!

You’ll have to forgive me for keeping this brief, but having spent all day at the beach in the sun, and having the sun set on my fantasy world with the Mike Trout news, I’m not exactly feeling up to a big long post.

But I would like to say that if you know anyone in the military, a neighbor, a friend, a family member, anything along those lines, please take a moment to thank them for their service. Our military members sacrifice so much for us daily, so that we can do things like play fantasy baseball and live the kind of lives that we want to live. We owe every single one of them for our freedom and our very way of life. Mere words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation to these brave men and women.

Time for some power rankings!

Week Eight Power Rankings

1) Believe The Hype– It’s gonna take more than one loss to knock Allan off the top of the mountain. Have you looked at his offense? Think about this, Andrew Benintendi was his 6th option in his utility and outfield mix. How many teams in our league would he be a no-brainer start in their lineup? He may need one more pitcher, but so far Allan has been brilliant at managing his team and picking the correct lineups. We’ll see if he can keep up the magic.

2) sportsmanMike– The train keeps moving along. Mike is now the top scorer in the league and on a four game winning streak after dispatching a tough Love Boat Captains team. This team has become notorious for ripping off win streaks in recent seasons, he won seven straight in his championship season of 2015. The offense is elite and the pitching has held up so far. Mike is gonna be around for the long haul.

3) Yankeehaters– From 0-3 to third in the power rankings, the rise continues for our defending champion. After struggling to score points early in the season, Dave has now ripped off two straight weeks of being the top scorer and blowing out his opponents, and he’s rapidly climbing both the standings and the scoring lists. The Charlie Blackmon trade could go down as one of the most lopsided in our league’s long history, and reinforcements are still to come in Corey Kluber and Yoenis Cespedes. The arrow is pointing sky high for this Yankeehating bunch.

4) Roger Dorn– This team knows how to win games when it counts. Sadly there’s no tiebreaker for division record, because Dylan is 5-0 and has absolutely steamrolled the entire beer division. I’ll never understand why he traded Charlie Blackmon for Jason Vargas, but it’s hard to question him when the results keep coming. A big game with the surging Yankeehaters should give us a better indication of where this teams at. I’m not sure if Dylan yet believes if he’s a contender.

5) WillisBeTheYear– Help is on the way! Josh Donaldson and David Price both return to the lineup in week eight. Price didn’t look that amazing in his start against the White Sox today, but you have to think it will take some time for his to regain his form. The Donaldson return cannot be overstated. Just go take a look at how much more impressive his lineup looks with Donaldson at the hot corner. The difference is night and day. Willis is off to a roaring start with an 85 point total on Monday and looks well on his way to another win.

6) Love Boat Captains– There’s no way around it, the once mighty Love Boat Captains are struggling. Johnny Cueto and the rest of her pitching staff are really letting her down. Ginger builds her team the same way every year, draft an entire elite offense, and stock up on solid pitchers to form a good enough pitching staff. But what if the pitchers she selected aren’t any good for a change? What happens then? I don’t believe this is the case, this is just a rough patch. Ginger will bounce back. She always has, she always does.

7) Rays Those Cowbells– I was feeling really great. I had won two games in a row against Allan and Ginger, two of the toughest teams in our league. I had just made a trade to bring in Andrew Benintendi, an outfielder that I absolutely love, and I had even climbed to second place in the season scoring race. All these good feelings of course changed when I saw the Mike Trout bombshell flash across my phone. All the work I’ve done to try to get back into this thing just feels somewhat insignificant now.

8) RedRays– The good news: Dallas Keuchel came off the DL and looked pretty good. The bad news: His losing streak continues. The worse news: Willis came out today and absolutely stomped him, and he’s down 75 points before the week even really begins.

9) The October Boys– This team needs Manny Machado to get going in the worst possible way. A .220 batting average just ain’t gonna cut it. I still think this team is better than it’s record. Machado, Betts, Judge, Abreu, Bellinger, there’s some serious studs on this team. You have to think better days are ahead at some point.

10) Stogies– I have no idea how many games Bryce Harper is going to be suspended for, but I can’t be the only person who’s tired of this guys act. He’s an entitled punk who thinks the world owes him something. Yes, Hunter Strickland is a douchebag and plunking somebody because they took you deep in a playoff game is a really bush league thing to do, but still, that’s no excuse to act like a clown. Baseball fights are stupid and ridiculous. Just play ball.

Game of the Week

  1. Foul line Dave Says:

Just to clarify… it was Vargas & Yelich for Blackmon.

  2. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

But he took the OF downgrade to acquire Vargas. Essentially making it Vargas for Blackmon.

  3. Foul line Dave Says:

Yelich is the same guy you said could win the batting title this year. Now he’s nothing?

  4. Dan The #1 Rays Fan Says:

He’s a good player. Blackmon is an MVP candidate.
