Drinking And Trading, The Playoffs

Real life sometimes gets in the way of baseball. It’s an unfortunate lesson I’ve had to learn over the past six weeks.

Between getting a new promotion at work, and dealing with the chaos that was Hurricane Irma, I had to suspend the weekly thefoulline.com fantasy baseball reviews. I simply just didn’t have the time to write them the way I wanted too. I could’ve taken 10 minutes and put a 150 word paragraph together and really phone it in just to keep the posts coming, but that’s not something I like to do. If I’m going to bother to write, I want it to be great stuff worth reading. I have a very high standard for myself.

Having said all that, there was NO WAY that I was going to let the playoffs come and go without writing posts. It’s the most exciting time of the fantasy baseball season, and my first playoff appearance since 2013. It’s been a long road to get back here, and I’m incredibly proud of the way my team played this season. ┬áBouncing back from a 1-5 start to finish 16-8 is one of my favorite things I’ve ever accomplished in my 10 years of playing fantasy baseball.

But enough rambling about myself, we’ve got four owners determined to bring home the gold this year. Let’s see how these matchups will play out.

Believe The Hype Vs Yankeehaters

It’s the game that neither man wanted. Allan didn’t want to play the Yankeehaters during their hot streak, and Dave didn’t wanna play clearly the best team in the league. For weeks now all that we’ve heard from Dave is that he’s “getting hot at the right time” and that “nobody wants to play him” and all the other boring cliches that mediocre teams use to justify that they deserve to sneak into the playoffs. But having said that, this really is a great matchup. A two start Clayton Kershaw is going to be hard to take down, and at this point you really do have to pencil Corey Kluber in for 30 points. He’s been on the best pitching run I’ve ever seen in all my years of watching baseball. Last weeks game will play a big role. Dave had his best possible week and put up 390, and Allan struggled to a finish near 270. That trend reverses this week. Allan’s team is the best in the league, and has been all season long. He deserves to win this game, and he deserves to win the title. Period.

WillisBeTheYear vs Rays Those Cowbells

It’s the by far less sexy of the two playoff matches, but these are two great teams that have known they were going to be in the playoffs since July. Willis fought hard to grab a win in the final game of the regular season, and as a reward gets to avoid playing Allan in the first round. It really could pay off for him, as this is the week you want to play Rays Those Cowbells. None of my pitchers are starting twice, the schedule just didn’t line up for me the way it needed to, and I head into this game on a bit of a downturn, as my team is nowhere near as powerful as it was earlier this season. Willis and I usually always play a closely contested game, and I think the difference here could be that Jose Altuve and George Springer didn’t play that well last week. They’re too good to struggle for long, and they’ll make the difference in a close game.

It’s the playoffs! Get excited! Good luck to our final four this week!
